Retractable Pool Enclosures - Design

Retractable pool enclosures also know as indoor pool enclosures or outdoor pool enclosures are composed of individual bays, which can be any length, made up of any number of panels . The bays are telescopic so they retract, one inside the other. Each operable bay runs on wheels which are mounted on a track system, guiding each bay as it opens and closes. The swimming pool enclosure can be fully or partially opened using our patented, motorized drive system which handles the physical movement of the enclosure with the simple push of a button.

Framing System

COVERS in Play retractable pool enclosures have a patented prestressed framing system which is comprised of extruded aluminum main frames and concealed stainless steel tie rods. The stainless steel rods preload the enclosure structurally, allowing the system to withstand greater snow loads or wind loads. The design of the frame also includes an integrated gutter system which collects and channels any internal condensation to the outside of the enclosure.

Another unique feature is our splice plate patented assembly that doesn't require hammering or forcing the framing system together during construction. The framing items are placed together in a mechanical locking system that can handle greater loads than conventional systems. Our unique framing features are not only designed with the latest engineering tools but also tested to ensure they exceed today's standards. The aluminum frame (aluminum enclosure) is finished with a high architectural quality paint and comes in a range of colours. The finish exhibits outstanding resistance to humidity, color change, chalk, gloss shifting and chemical cleaning. In addition, it meets or exceeds all criteria of the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) 2605 specification.

Glazing & Seals

The vertical surfaces are glazed with clear acrylic and the roof panels are typically twin wall polycarbonate. Other choices are also available.

In order to provide protection from the elements, each panel is compressed between two seals. Thermal breaks fasteners are also installed to help reduce heat loss, along with double weather seals at the telescoping interfaces.

Tracks

When opening or closing the enclosure for indoor pools, retractable roofs or patios, the wheels of the telescoping bays are guided on parallel tracks. The tracks are made from an extruded aluminum alloy can be installed embedded or surface mounted on existing foundations

Installation of the tracks requires a relatively flat, and level surface. The tracks are then secured with stainless steel anchors. A locking system is installed to secure the bay to the tracks at all times. There is no need to further secure the bays with locking pins or anchors.

Motorized Drive System

COVERS in Play provides a patented motorized drive system which allows the telescopic pool enclosure to be opened or closed with the push of a button. This feature is unique in the industry and allows for larger and more diverse design range with the enclosure system. No manual pushing is required!

In order to ensure the safe operation of the motorized drive system, several security measures have been incorporated. First, a key must be inserted before the button can be used to open or close the swimming pool enclosure. In addition, movement of the retractable pool enclosure will cease when the button is released.

COVERS in Play includes the motorized drive system as a standard feature standard feature on all retractable pool enclosures, retractable enclosure roofs and restaurant enclosures.

Panel Size

COVERS in Play enclosures have a patented design that allows the standard vertical panel sizes to be up to 7 ft wide x 12 ft high. Cross bracing of the vertical panels is not required, thus providing a clear, unobstructed view of the outdoors.

Hardware

The enclosure is assembled using only stainless steel hardware and fasteners.

Doors and Windows

Fenestration choices includes sliding doors and windows, man doors, bi-fold doors and others as may required (automatic actuators are also available). The enclosure's framing design allows for the doors to be made from glass rather than acrylic or polycarbonate. Tempered glass is not as susceptible to marks and scratching in high traffic areas.
