Retractable Roof Enclosure Over Your Swimming Pool

Creating a home swimming pool is an outstanding and appealing feature that many people would want to own. However not all swimming pools are created equal, and while a pool will be an incredible feature to add to your home, there are countless ways that you can get more from your standard pool and make it all the more stunning with a retracting roof enclosure.

Enjoy the Benefits of an Indoor-Outdoor Swimming Pool
Swimming in an outdoor pool has many benefits.  It allows you to relax under the sun and really feel like a summer holiday, but it also gives you the possibility to look up at the sky and float around while you admire the outdoors – an incredibly refreshing and therapeutic way to enjoy your pool.

However, being outdoors can have its problems.  For one, you will not be able to use your swimming pool when its cold or rainy, as well it means you’ll spend far more time cleaning your pool and removing dirt and leaves that can accumulate over time.  With a retractable roof or pool enclosure roof, you can handle these issues by closing the roof over the pool when the weather becomes nasty or when not in use, but you’ll be able to enjoy the sun or perhaps the stars without the bugs when you want to.  You can also avoid a sun burn with the pool enclosure is partially opened which many people forget when enjoying their swimming pool.

You will discover more advantages too, as the retractable enclosure roof allows you to use your swimming pool in whole new way. There is certainly nothing quite as relaxing as listening to the sounds of the nature while you’re hovering on the water while still protected from the elements.  Its like being outdoors but indoors at the same time. Controlling your own environment at all times.

When you are not using your swimming pool, you can just enjoy sitting around and enjoy a drink or two.  Or have dinner under the stars without pesky mosquito buzzing around wanting you for dinner. Or on cold winters day take a brave roll in the snow and jump back into the warm pool to warm up to make your heart beat a little faster.

Blown Away Element
Another bonus of getting a retractable pool enclosure over your swimming pool is that it’ll add an extraordinary dynamic factor to your home. Seeing an indoor pool is impressive enough, but seeing it transformed into an outdoor oasis with a push of a button is amazing.  Letting nature in with your figure tips is empowering.  The space not only adds extra space to play year-round it adds value to your home.

Tips for Selling a Home With a Pool Enclosure

The pool enclosure glimmering in your back yard is the flagship of your property, the focal point of balmy summer afternoons and lazy Sunday barbecues. Now that you’re looking to sell your home, you’ll need to show that value to prospective buyers. Although you know what it takes to keep the pool pristine, many prospective home buyers don’t have experience with owning a pool. Luckily, buyers can be helped to understand everything that goes into having this great addition to a home. Furthermore, with a pool enclosure, they can rest easy knowing that maintenance will be that much easier throughout the year compared to a pool that is exposed to the elements.15

The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals indicates that the number of new inground pools in the U.S. continues to increase, and 5,139,990 homes had an in-ground swimming pool as of 2015, meaning there is absolutely a market for the aquatic buyers. So how do you tap into this market? Here are some tips for selling a home with a pool enclosure so that you attract the largest number of bidders possible without breaking the bank in preparation.

Focus on Aesthetics
As a seller, you should have a plan in place for pulling prospective buyers in. All of the equipment, pool, and deck should shine. Replace caulking, grout, and worn or destroyed pool parts. Reduce debris and make sure your back yard’s landscaping looks inviting. In other words, make the space look picture perfect—as you will want to be taking many pictures for your real estate agent’s marketing and listing pages.

Out with the Old
Does a ladder look damaged, dinged, or does it simply lack luster? If so, replace it. Stainless steel options are affordable. Likewise, replace any torn, broken, or disheveled parts, such as vinyl liners, pool cleaners, telescoping pool poles, and pump motors. Prospective buyers will learn about these items during a pool inspection, so you may as well handle it well in advance.

Provide Organized Information & Educate Buyers
Offer a pool binder with clearly organized information detailing everything about the maintenance and servicing of your pool. Have all of the instructions typed up with exact details about how the pool and its enclosure operates. Include information about any renovations or replacement work done, servicing completed, and types of chemicals used. Keep in mind that the average buyer’s biggest concerns revolve around maintenance and safety. Helping them understand how everything works can show them just how easy it.

Three Ways to Heat Up Your Pool

Swimming in a pool is one of the most relaxing things you could do after a long day. It’s also a great activity you’re just looking to distress and get a bit of exercise in. Unfortunately, it can be a bit of a bummer if the pool is uncomfortably cold!

While it may not be an issue mid summer, if you are trying to swim in the spring or even in the fall then there’s a good chance the water may be too cold for comfort.

Fortunately, there are several ways to heat up your pool. We’ll go over the pros and cons of each approach, including when each one may be a good/bad choice, and an approximate cost.

1. Pool Heater

A pool heater is the first choice that comes to mind for most people, and they typically work well for both above ground and inground pools. You can’t really go wrong with a pool heater, as they work in all situations and for all types of pools.

You can expheat pumpect these to cost around $1,o00-$2,500 which is definitely not cheap, but is a lower up front cost than pool heat pumps (which we’ll talk about below). However, pool heaters are typically less energy efficient and are more expensive to use.

Pool heaters are great for all types of situations and climates, and can be used to extend the swimming season beyond just summer. If you think a pool heater is best for you, we invite you to take a look at these set of reviews on various pool heaters.

2. Pool Heat Pumps

Pool heat pumps are not as numerous as pool heaters, but they are rapidly gaining popularity. Although they can be about $2,000-$3,5000, the long term running costs are much cheaper.

This is because they use the ambient air and don’t require as much electricity and gas (as some pool heaters require). If you’re really environmentally conscious then these are great options because they use less energy.heat pump2

Unfortunately, they’re not perfect and not for everybody. Pool heat pumps are really only available for inground pools, so if you have an above ground pool then heat pumps aren’t a viable option. Additionally, pool heat pumps require the temperature to be at least 50 degrees, since they use the surrounding air. Anything lower than that and they won’t really work.

This means that if your climate is on the colder side, then pool heat pumps may  not be for you. Though they work just as well in warm temperature, they are better used to heat up a pool in already acceptable weather conditions for swimming.

3. Solar Pool Covers

Solar pool covers are very different from the two above choices. They are the cheapest (about $100), and the most energy efficient. In fact, they don’t require any energy since a solar pool cover consists of a few layers of plastic.

Don’t worry, you’re not just paying for unimpressive sheets of plastic. There is a bit of technology and research behind these pool heating blankets. In fact, they are specifically designed to trap heat from the sun and keep it from escaping your pool.

These covers also reduce evaporation, which is how a lot of heat escapes from pools. There are a TON of other benefits to reducing evaporation, but we won’t go further down that route.

Like pool heat pumps, solar pool covers aren’t for cooler climates. Since they require energy and heat from the sun, they are best used in warm climates. Surprisingly, they can easily boost the water temperature 5 to 10 degrees, depending on the climate.

Overall, they’re a great choice, but you don’t have a lot of control over them unlike pool heaters and heat pumps which you can control with a control panel.

4. Pool Enclosures

Pool enclosures work very similarly to solar pool covers. They trap the solar energy like a greenhouse and are very effective at trapping heat, warming up the area around your pool and your swimming pool.

Swimming in Spring

Pool enclosures also act as an insulator retaining the heat gain. Like with solar pool covers, pool enclosures will heat up your pool and pool area when the sun is out or even on a cloudy day.  But you can’t set a temperature for the pool water or pool area like you can with heaters and pumps, but it’s still very effective and you can expect a 15 to 30 plus degree difference from the outside temperature.

Although increased pool temperature isn’t the main reason you’d get a pool enclosure, it’s certainly a great benefit. There are actually a TON of reasons to get pool enclosures. For a list of some other reasons to get an automatic pool enclosure check out this page.

We can’t say there is a best choice, as each option serves different needs.

We encourage you to purchase a pool heater and enclosure, if you really want to be able to swim whenever you want, no matter what the weather conditions are. However, if you have an inground pool and live in a warmer climate, pool heat pumps may be better for you. This is because they are cheaper to run and can still be used to heat up your pool throughout most of the year (especially if you live in California or Florida!).

Finally, solar pool covers are great if you’re extremely environmentally conscious, want a low up front cost, and don’t mind depending on solar energy to heat up your pool. You’ll lack the ability to control the water temperature, but at a fraction of the cost of the other 2 choices, solar pool covers can definitely be worth it.

Hopefully we were able to provide a little bit of insight about various ways to heat up your pool. It’s up to you to decide on what’s best for you, but if you have any questions feel free to drop us a question in the comments section. Thanks for reading!

My Experience With A Retractable Pool Enclosure

I have had the privilege of having an enclosure in my backyard since I was six years old. It is a real treat being able to swim year ‘round but it’s really the beauty of each season that I can admire through the walls of the enclosure that I love so much.

We live in Canada, so we get the full four seasons (including a pretty rough winter) and watching each season change is really exciting when you have a retractable pool enclosure. It’s like a little bubble of tropical vacation that I can carry with me through each season. My favourite season to swim however is the fall. Some of my favourite memories is swimming and hanging out in the warmth of the enclosure while admiring the colourful leaves on the trees just outside.

Through the years, I’ve watched our backyard oasis grow into something truly spectacular. Vines hang over the rocks at the end of our pool, trees and flowers bloom at any time of the year, and I get a little piece of summer no matter what each season brings. But aside from the beauty of the backyard, having an enclosure has been quite the adventure! Pool parties with my friends are always a hit, even Christmas pool parties (which doesn’t typically exist in Canada) have been a blast. Two of my favourite pool parties have actually taken place while the enclosure was closed. The first started out as any average pool party, the sun was shining, it was a hot summer day and the enclosure was wide open, but as the day progressed a massive thunder storm broke loose and we had to close it, I was really disappointed. But it turned out to be one of the coolest swimming experiences ever, watching the rain and lightning while swimming and blasting music was super exciting and fun.

A few years later for a birthday pool party, my Dad made us a zip line that we attached to the top of one side of the enclosure to the other. Zip lining into the water was one of the best birthday parties I had and my friends had the time of their life! Above all, my favourite thing to do in our enclosure takes place in the winter. My sister and I love to go outside and roll in the snow and then jump back into the warmth of the pool. But besides the thrilling idea of snow and swimming, at the end of the day it’s just nice to spend a night with my family, lounging by the pool without the mosquitoes (which usually eat me alive by the way).
Pool Enclosure Open
Overall, our enclosure is like a little summer oasis that you can step into whatever the weather, it’s a real retreat from the harsh weather conditions we have here and I do everything from swimming to doing my homework in there.

Thanks for the memories Covers In Play.
