Design - Retractable Enclosures

Retractable enclosures are composed of individual bays or sections.  The bays are telescopic so they retract, one inside the other.  Each bay has it's own set of wheels which are mounted on a track system, guiding each bay as it opens and closes.  The enclosure can be fully or partially opened using our motorized drive system which handles the physical movement of the enclosure with the simple push of a button.

Frame

COVERS in Play retractable enclosures have a uniquely patented pre-stress framing system that are made from extruded aluminum and stainless steel rods. The stainless steel rods preload the enclosure structure so it acts more like a welded structure then a bolted hinge like assembly. This allows the structure to withstand greater snow loads or wind loads.  The design of the frame also includes an integrated gutter system which collects and channels any internal condensation to the outside of the enclosure.

Another unique feature is our patented splice plate assembly that does not require hammering or forcing the framing system together during construction in any way. The framing components are placed together as a slide fit and fastened together in a mechanical locking system that can withstand greater loads then conventional systems. Our unique framing features are not only designed with the latest engineering tools but also tested to ensure they exceed todays standards. The aluminum frame (aluminum enclosure) is finished with a premium quality architectural paint  and is available in a range of colours.  The finish exhibits outstanding resistance to humidity, color change, chalk, gloss shift and chemical cleaning.  In addition, it meets or exceeds all criteria of the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) 2605 specification.

Glazing & Seals

The side and roof panels are made from either clear acrylic, polycarbonate or glass panels.  Other colour choices are also available.

In order to provide protection from the elements, each panel is compressed between two seals.  Thermal break fasteners are also installed to help reduce heat loss.

Track

When opening or closing the enclosure, the wheels of the telescoping bays are guided on parallel tracks.  The tracks are made from an extruded aluminum alloy  and have an anodized finish.  They are available in a range of colours including bronze, gray and brown.

Installation of the track requires a relatively flat, smooth surface.  The tracks are then secured with stainless steel fasteners.  A locking system is installed to secure the bay to the track at all times. There is no need to further secure the bays with locking pins or anchors.

Motorized Drive System

COVERS in Play provides a patented motorized drive system which allows the enclosure to be opened or closed with the push of a button.  This feature is unique in the industry.  No manual pushing is required!

In order to ensure the safe operation of the motorized drive system, several security measures have been incorporated.  First, a key must be inserted before the button can be used to open or close the swimming pool enclosure.  In addition, movement of the pool enclosure will cease when the button is released.

COVERS in Play includes the motorized drive system as a standard feature on all pool enclosures.

Panel Size

COVERS in Play enclosures have a patented design that allows the standard vertical panel sizes to be quite large (6' or 6.9' wide x 8' high). Cross bracing of the vertical panels is not required, thus providing a clear, unobstructed view of the outdoors.

Hardware

The enclosure is assembled using only stainless steel hardware and fasteners.

Doors and Windows

Each enclosure comes with two tempered glass sliding doors (including locks and screens).  The enclosure's rigid frame design allows for the sliding doors to be made of glass rather than acrylic or polycarbonate.  Tempered glass is less susceptible to scratching in high traffic areas.
